On a stock Grizzly, the start function is controlled by a denial system which will allow the engine to be started only when the "LEFT" handbrake is applied whenever the transmission is NOT in the "Park" position. (- it will start normally in "Park" -)

This can be modified by unplugging the plunger switch at the left brake lever and altering the plunger actuation. Note that this is NOT the brake "light" switch. Its only function it to inform the CDI when you have the brake applied. (See Fig 1 at right)

* * * * * The "RIGHT" side handbrake also has an identical plunger switch that IS for the brake light function. * * * * *
* * * * * DO NOT alter the RIGHT
handbrake plunger switch. * * * * *

There are several ways to accomplish this mod. Chosse the one that suits your requirements.

Left handbrake plunger switch

Method 1.  Remove about half of the brass colored tip of the plunger to make a permanent override. Grind off or cut with side cutters etc... then re-insert the plunger switch back into its socket. Your done.

Left handbrake

Method 2.  Remove the plunger switch partially from its socket, leaving it unseated. The drawback to this method is that it could slip back out and dangle while you are riding. Minor problem, but an unexpected distraction non-the-less. Your done.

Method 3.  Under the seat in the electrical area, locate the CDI and examine the 3 plugs to find and ground the Black / Yellow stripe wire.
