This or any modification to your ATV, should be performed ONLY at your own risk.  DISCLAIMER

Purpose of this modification:
To override the 22MPH wheel-speed limiter when operating in "4WD Diff-Lock" mode.

Results to expect after successful competion of this modification:
Much less limited wheel-speed when in Diff-Lock. The CDI still has a limit on your MAX RPM at about 8500RPM's. If you choose to hardwire the mod, you won't need to use your thumb for the override.

Negative side effects of this modification:
Increased stress will be exerted on all components, like Axles, CV Joints and other drivetrain components. The weak axle situation on early 03 Grizzly's, have "reportedly" been rectified since late 2003, but the axles can still be damaged. Caution must be excercised.

Skill level:
Basic Electrical

Tools required:
Standard hand tools

Parts or materials required:
None for basic hardwired override. Optionaly a switch or pushbutton can be used to control when the override condition is enabled and disabled. (same as the mod for 2002 - 2003 Grizzly's).

Approximate or estimated cost of mod:
N/A

The Diff-Lock function already has a built in momentary overide button on all stock Grizzly's since 2004. It can be bypassed to make the override a hardwired function rather than one that must be made active by manually pressing a button. This can be done by connecting the two wires from the factory handlbar pushbutton.

Wire location under front hoodRemove the front rack and the black plastic hood. In the front wiring compartment you will find
many wires and connectors. (see photo at right)

The two wires from the original Yamaha pushbutton on the handlebars are, "Light Green / Brown dots" and "Black / Brown dots".

If you wish to hardwire the Diff-Lock override function instead of having to keep the button pressed, these two wires can be "skinned" near their connectors and spliced together. Do not "cut" the Black/Brown wire as it is a shared ground, used also by the start button. The Green/Brown wire can be cut to free the switch for other uses.

Identify and verify the wires to ensure that you do not skin the wrong ones. It is a good idea to look and compare the "other" surrounding wires as well. If you find wires that do not have the same neighbors as the ones in the photo at the right, you probably have not found the correct wires yet. Keep looking.

Be sure to test the function of your override. Your Grizz should no longter be limited to 22 MPH when in Diff-Lock mode.

Be carefull.
